# 02 Identifying perceptions in existing publications

These could be 1) a research papers which is essential to your own research, 2) a paper you very much enjoyed reading, 3) a paper you did not like reading because it was too difficult to read, 4) a research paper your supervisor published, etc.

## Read the Introduction Sections of three research papers in your discipline

Identify and consider the following:

* [ ] Are these Introductions well-written? Badly written? Why?
* [ ] How did you evaluate your perceived quality of these research papers?
* [ ] Are there any other aspects you would like to emphasise about your personal perception?
* [ ] How is the literature integrated and used?
* [ ] Do you know the literature?
* [ ] Do you need to know the literature?
* [ ] What is the role of the literature?
* [ ] How many different sources are used? Is this something you considered important when you read the text?
* [ ] Is it a long or short introduction? If short, why? If long, why?

Bring the research papers to the Workshop and share your thoughts with your writing group and/or Discord
