Conclusion and Abstract

In this section, we'll reflect on the function of the conclusion section of some (not all) journal articles and we will approach writing an abstract with questions.

Aims:

  1. To understand how to conduct rhetorical analysis on research papers in your discipline and how this analysis also applies to your own writing;

  2. Applying a rhetorical analysis based on the Yang and Allison’s Move and Step Model (2003) to the Conclusion.

  3. To be able to write an abstract based on Brown’s eight questions.

  4. To question whether a conclusion is needed in your paper.

  5. To question the purpose of conclusions and abstracts.

Important Note:

If you haven't reached the conclusion or abstract section of your text, or if your text doesn't include a conclusion section based on the last workshop's discussions, you can continue working on any other section. The abstract guidelines can also support writing conference abstracts.
